Position: Community Education Liaison (Grant Funded)

Start Date: October 1st, 2020

End Date: September 30th, 2021

Hours/Times: 25 hours/week

Compensation: $16/hour

In line with the organization’s mission, Athens-Hocking Recycling Centers is seeking a motivated new staff member to serve as our Community Education Liaison. The role of Community Education Liaison is a new, part-time, temporary grant funded position at AHRC. The primary focus of this position is rural public recycling drop off locations across Athens and Hocking Counties.

Educate rural residents on proper recycling practices through a comprehensive in-person, print, and digital campaign around recycling contamination issues, such as not bagging recycling or how to properly recycle batteries, which do not belong in curbside recycling.

Core Duties

Staff highly trafficked rural recycling drop off locations with an attendant to perform direct, in-person communication with visitors on proper recycling.

Design and distribute two sets of palm cards that target behavior change in specific contamination issues.

Campaign on social media around contamination issues experienced in rural recycling.

Design and mail 2 sets of postcards to rural recycling customers to educate on behavior change around recycling contamination issues.

Other duties as assigned.


Applicants must possess at a minimum an associates degree in the education, environmental, or public policy fields.

Proficiency or willingness to learn Microsoft Office suite including Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint.

Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.

Strong organizational skills and ability to manage competing deadlines and prioritize time accordingly.

Ability to work independently and on a wide variety of tasks simultaneously.

A strong interest in waste reduction, waste diversion, or sustainability.

Familiarity with recycling and composting, as well as a demonstrated passion for recycling will be prioritized. This position will require weekend work as needed.

Laborer/CDL Driver - Description


Athens-Hocking Recycling Centers, Inc. (AHRC) is a 501©(3) nonprofit organization that is
mission driven, serving Athens County, Hocking County and the surrounding region.
AHRC’s mission is to create jobs and economic opportunities locally, while reducing waste,
conserving energy and resources, and protecting public health and the environment.
AHRC is now hiring for a Laborer/CDL Class B driver for recycling and refuse routes in Athens and
Hocking Counties. This position includes working on refuse and recycling trucks, and working at processing center. AHRC operates collection routes in both counties via packer trucks and
roll-off trucks as well as operating a materials sorting facility with a throughput of over
4,000 tons per year. AHRC also has a food/organics waste collection service and operates
a Class II compost facility.

AHRC offers a competitive compensation package to full time employees. The
compensation package includes, but is not limited to;

Job Requirements
• Have or obtain (within 6 months) a valid Class B (minimum) CDL License
• Be able to pass a DOT physical as well as drug and alcohol screening
• Be able to work early shift as well as weekends
• Be able to lift at least 50 - 75 lbs throughout the work day
• Work overtime as needed
• Work in inclement weather in an outdoor environment
• Operate Equipment to include, but not limited to;
• Forklift
• Manlift
• Skid steer loaders
• Hydraulic balers
• Perform equipment maintenance including cleaning, greasing, and other routine checks
• Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times when required.
