Organics Processor (Compost)
Responsibilities/Duties:
The Organics Processor manages AHRC’s compost facility and collection. Reports directly to the Executive Director.
Responsibilities/Duties:
Management of compost piles including moving, temperature management, moisture management, and documentation of the process
Seek continuing education about composting and suggest improvements to the processes
Complete Daily Composting Facility Log of Operations as required by the EPA and Health Department
Take and log compost temperatures on a daily basis, make adjustments to active piles based on results to create optimum composting conditions
Monitors the leachate system
Note and take steps to correct compost contamination at the source
Screen compost as needed
Maintain a clean and safe compost facility
Take and submit testing samples for analysis lab, following
Provide compost customers with technical information about the compost
Build relationships with customers to promote composting collection and sales
Load and deliver finished compost
Create yearly EPA compost report and submit
Communicate with and comply with the Athens County Health Department
Pickup compost on scheduled pickup days (City of Athens, residential and businesses)
Create & maintain efficiencies for existing routes for compost pickup
Collection of Used Cooking Oil (UCO) solids
Clean compost buckets and carts
Maintain compost equipment including the skid-steer, trucks, trailer, and hoses.
Complete all other tasks assigned by the supervisor, including helping on the recycling sorting line, and with trash/recycling collection and processing as needed
Required Skills:
Strong verbal and written communication skills, and good administrative and organizational skills
Must be self motivated and able to work alone
Must be safety conscious
Must be able to meet physical demands that include but are not limited to lifting up to 50lbs and work in inclement weather
Capable of maintaining digital records and creating reports for regulatory agencies
Valid driver's license
Ability to drive a truck with a trailer
Operate; Skid-steer loader, front-end loader, forklift, screener, shredder, and other related equipment
Required Education:
Degree/Certification in agricultural field of study, crop or soil science, or equivalent experience in a composting processing function, farm, or landscaping.
Ohio Compost Operator Education Course (or attain within probationary period)
Other Prefered Skills/Certifications/Experience:
Class B CDL
Previous experience with a EPA certified compost facility
Job Type: Full-time, Bargaining unit (Union)
8 hour shift, Monday – Friday 7:00am – 3:30pm.
Overtime and weekends as required
Pay: $16.50 per hour (Starting base pay $15.00 per hour + $1.50/hr attendance bonus)
